The Springs Learning Center has paired up with a truffle-making factory to help workers learn English.
Sabatino, an Italian truffle procurer and supplier, has a U.S. operation based in West Haven, Connecticut. Edwin Yupa, a Human Resources Specialist for Sabatino, sought outside help as he noticed the employees would separate into groups largely based on the language they spoke – Spanish or English.
“We’d hold birthday parties for colleagues,” Yupa said. “Before the ESL classes, it would just be English speakers or Spanish speakers only because one group didn’t know how to invite the other.”
Because of you, Springs Learning Center now teaches English to about 15 employees after work hours onsite at Sabatino.
“The employees were openminded and willing to learn a second language,” Yupa said. “It’s opened doors and broken down the barrier between our English and Spanish speakers.”
And, after just a few months of classes, Yupa can already see the difference that your support of the Dominican Sisters of Peace has made possible.
“I see more diversity and inclusion,” he said. “We had a birthday party recently and almost everybody participated.”
